The place to be.
Sainte Foy ski resort has been designed to recreate a typical alpine village.
The chalets that nestle amongst the trees in their southwest-facing bowl have all been built in traditional style, with pitched roofs and wooden balconies, using local stone and wood.
A refreshing change from the concrete jungles found in some of the larger alpine resorts. Accommodation is available at the ski resort itself, in the main village, and in many of the surrounding small farming hamlets. A free shuttle bus links the main village, and the hamlet of La Thuile to the ski resort. Information from +33 4 79 06 95 15. "Sainte Foy is located close to the Italian border and as well as having its own little known and uncrowded ski area, is an excellent base for those with a car to visit some of France's classic ski areas, within a thirty minute drive, including Val d'Isere, Tignes and les Arcs as well as the cross border French/Italian region of La Rosiere/La Thuile. It's also more affordable than most of these giant resorts surrounding it, with the local lift ticket (and everything else) far cheaper than most of its neighbours. Although more of the big operators are showing an interest in St Foy the resort so far remains remarkably unspoilt and has preserved its authentic charm and local architecture."
