In summer, during your mountain escapades, you may come across herding dogs, known as patous. Present on high plateaus and fenced-in meadows, they watch over the herds. As mentioned, four-legged holidaymakers are welcome here. However, when out walking in the mountains, they may come across local wildlife. Wildlife such as chamois, marmots and ibex are sensitive to disturbance. Weakened at the end of winter, they need to conserve their energy. It is therefore essential to keep your dog on a leash on the plateau to avoid any pursuit, which could be fatal to them.
